Before and After - It's shearing time!

I am no expert with shearing and last year was my first experience to shear llamas.  I had never even watched shearing done but the llamas I got needed hair-dos so I bought shears and went to work on my own.  What a fun experience and I really enjoy the transformations and making the llamas feel better....
This year we have the rescues here in need of being sheared so today, we finally had some sun and it was time to get started on them!  We sheared 2 of them today.
I was very impressed with how well both llamas did.  Neither spit, both let me shear them either while they were standing up or they would kush.  Very good girls!
First we did "Bobble" who is a young girl.
Getting started.....

Moving right along......

And STILL more......

And almost done....

And Bobble's final new 'look'!
She's still thin, but has gained weight since arriving here, her belly is full and I think with more time, good food and care, she will fill out very nicely!
Our second shearing of the day is "Oma", a senior girl with a sway back....after shearing we figure her back was caused by a severe injury by some kind of animal attack, with a giant chunk of her back torn out and now completely healed.
"OMA"

As we got started.....

Such a transformation on this girl as we went along!!

Moving right along......

Almost done......

FINISHED!!!  Isn't she beautiful!
She's thin but a nice healthy belly.  I have no doubt getting all that heavy fiber off her back will make her feel MUCH BETTER!
We sheared the necks because of the matted up fiber, usually we are lucky enough not to have to shear the necks but by next year, they will be as lovely as ever!  This shearing for these rescues is about cleaning them up and getting them ready to live and be beautiful again  ;-)

  1. The before and after is unreal! I can just imagine them kicking up their heels in relief afterward.
